Structural Engineer II (4+ years experience)

Job Description:


The successful candidate will provide detailed engineering support and client interface to ongoing projects across all divisions.  This will include performing structural design calculations, engineering and design of new structural and material handling components, developing and reviewing fabrication drawings, developing and reviewing procedural documents, technical interface with clients, and participating in the peer review and checking process.  Projects typically include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Winch skid design and wire routing for riser and umbilical pullins and/or decommissioning
  • Riser flex joint replacements utilizing high capacity (500kips +) bearing or friction clamps
  • Complex heavy lifts using rigging and/or structural frames
  • Material handling by cranes, winches, tuggers, rollers, air casters, and/or rigging
  • Deck raising analyses
  • Temporary and permanent skid packages (single and multiple levels) for fixed and floating platforms

Preferred Skills:

  • Detailed knowledge of the API RP 2A and AISC 9th and/or 13th edition (WSD) Codes
  • Proficient in detailed structural steel design and analysis (ASD/WSD)
  • Proficient in traditional hand calculations to document/justify designs
  • Proficient in linear structural analysis software package programming (DNV Sesam GeniE preferred, SACS, etc.)
  • Familiar with FEA software and analysis techniques (Autodesk Simulation, ANSYS, etc.)
  • Familiar with Autodesk Inventor 3D modeling
  • Ability to author technical reports for client and regulatory body review
  • Ability to develop detailed procedural documents for field operations and project execution
  • Ability to work with a project team of supervisors and peers
  • Strong desire to support onsite fabrication and testing activities as well as travel to offsite job locations primarily in the Gulf of Mexico

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (advanced degree preferred)
  • Texas Professional Engineer License (or the ability to obtain)
  • Valid TWIC card (or the ability to obtain)
  • Valid THUET certification (or the ability to obtain)

Operations Engineer I

Job Purpose:


To provide the operational link between Project Management, Engineering and Drafting, and all field operations (both onshore and offshore) on projects as assigned. The Operations Engineer specializes in equipment preparation, testing, mobilization and project execution. As the technical liaison on assigned projects, this role requires significant coordination and communication between key company interfaces.


Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Collaborates with Operations and Project Management to develop and execute unique resource plans for each project to ensure their safe, timely and successful completion. Resources include: equipment, personnel, and 3rd party services for both onshore and offshore aspects of each project.
  • Develops hydraulic drawings and calculations for specialized rental equipment that meets the performance requirements for each project. Equipment includes, but is not limited to: hydraulic winches, hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic power units and associated controls.
  • Develops project specific technical documentation and procedures such as Commissioning, Systems Integration Testing (SIT) Procedures, Inspection and Refurbishment Checklists, Field Installation and Operations Procedures, etc.
  • In conjunction with Project Management, develops detailed equipment manifests to ensure successful project mobilizations
  • Works closely (hands on) with all aspects of field operations to provide guidance and technical support, as well as feedback to Project Management and Engineering
  • Ensures the Safety Management and Quality Management process and procedures are fully integrated into all Versabar field operations

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong technical and communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving and leadership ability
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in team environment
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • AutoCAD Mechanical 2D experience or training
  • 3D geometric modeling experience such as Inventor or Solidworks a plus, but not required

Education & Experience:

  • 4-year Industrial Technology, Engineering, or Engineering Technology Degree required
  • Industrial or educational related internships or past work experience highly preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work outdoors and/or in shops as required to support project work
  • Ability to travel as required to project locations, both onshore and offshore
